My Hometown Summer

As a college student, I hear stories about amazing summers spent in Tanzania or researching ebola. I knew that every summer is an opportunity to further your resume and start building pathways for your future career. After turning down two internships because I was looking for the perfect opportunity, I reluctantly decided to go back to my hometown after closing doors that I could have gone through instead, which I regretted later and realized that I could have just tried them out. My first day back at home, I felt like a failure--I had come back with no job and no purpose while my friends were all over the country, working and traveling. After wandering around aimlessly for a few days, trying to find enough things to do to fill the time and wondering how I was going to make it through 3 months, I realized the amazing potential that is offered in coming back to my hometown.

A hometown is filled with history and memories of childhood and family, along with many people a person has met and often forgotten. I want to take advantage of this summer to re-establish the connections with people who are a distant memory. I don't want to have to run to other places around the country in order to become successful, running from the shame I still hold from not doing enough in high school and not being as outgoing as I wanted to be. Here's to a new adventure in a familiar place.

Running...enough said

It's winter and I'm running. I've been running since last summer, or attempting to at least and I have to say I've come a long way! Even though my attitude towards running at first was that I hated it, after a while, I got sick of sitting on my butt and decided to act. So...I started jogging (slowly) and now, after a couple weeks of not running much, I can go at least .10 miles without stopping, which believe it or not is progress for me.
I can definitely tell the difference it has made in my life, making my legs more toned and my confidence level go way up, so I recommend light jogging for all people who want to get in shape!

One thing I can say is that even though there are some little things you can do to get in shape, there aren't many shortcuts. The easiest way is to get some exercise, even some medium walking, and eat a little bit healthier. There are tons of easy little ways to make a big difference, but the point is, you have to make an effort.

Arsy (and Christian) jewelry

My mother makes jewelry to fundraise for our trip to India! She makes glittery pendants and sells some antiques...check out her stuff, especially if you need a good, pretty attractive present for someone!

3 Idiots

Want a quirky, underrated movie? Watch 3 Idiots, a Bollywood movie about a guy who challenges all conventionality at a top engineering school in India! As a future college student, it taught me a lot about learning for the knowledge rather than for the degree.
I am officially in love with this movie, and maybe once you see it, you will be too! 3 goofy guys, a dreamer and inventor, a funny love story, a comedy, a weird jerky professor, what more could you ask for?!

And remember: "Aal Izz Well!"

Summer Recap

This summer has been crazy, especially since I can drive now! I've been to some amazing places, retreats, parties, hangouts, and family reunions! I've learned a lot of things about myself (which sounds really cheesy, I know) and I'm not scared about what's going to happen in the future anymore.

Here are some of the awesome things I've found this summer:
My favorite show that I watched was LEGEND OF THE SEEKER, which they canceled the 3rd season of, but it was worth every minute of it. It combines fantasy, violence, romance, and everything else that I could want in a show.

Favorite book series? Sarah Dessen! I've read all of her books and I'm in love with all of them. Because of her, I want ordinary life to be an adventure, like joining a catering business or planning my mom's wedding. No matter what's going on, I have her books to provide an escape from reality.

Here's to a year of parties, friends, study groups, coffee shops, new teachers and classes, trips, Spring Break, Christmas, and everything else in between that makes the school year worth it!
